total extent of land under tea cultivation has been assessed at approximately
187,400 hectares. Tea production is year round phenomenon and cultivation is usually
concentrated in the central highlands and the southern inland areas of the island.
Ceylon tea consists of a combination of distinctive, fine, rich yet mellow flavor,
bright and golden color that appeals to tea drinkers through out the world.
High grown teas from Sri Lanka are well known for their taste and aroma.
The two types of seasonal tea are produced in the areas known as Dimbula and Nuwara
Eliya. These teas are much sought after by blenders in tea importing countries.
The medium grown teas provide a thick coloury variety which are popular in Australia,
